Get a start on your career while still at school!
TVET stands for TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training courses for school students. These courses count towards your NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC).
OTEN delivers TVET courses to individuals by distance education. You get the opportunity to study where and when it best suits you. That may be at home, in the library or at school. It might be at night, on weekends or even in the school holidays.
How is OTEN - TAFE NSW different from school?
TAFE is an adult learning environment. You will be encouraged to be self-directed, self-motivated and to assume responsibility for your learning progress. You will need to show commitment, in terms of your attitude to learning, and a willingness to become fully involved in the learning process.
How will an OTEN - TAFE NSW course benefit you?
TVET courses are designed to lead to higher TAFE courses. You will have an opportunity to obtain advanced standing and/or continuing student status on successful completion of your study.
TVET course will enhance your entry into the labour market. This is particularly true for courses with a work placement component. Industry recognises the quality of TAFE trained workers. TVET courses aim to prepare you for lifelong learning.
Will you get a TAFE certificate at the end of the course?
TVET students may receive two sets of credentials at the end of their course. If you meet the Board of Studies HSC requirements, the TVET course will be included on your HSC certificate. If you meet the TAFE requirements you will receive a testamur from TAFE NSW. Depending on the course and the modules successfully completed, the testamur will be either an Academic Transcript or a Certificate.
